If you take an equal % for 5 years out of ROTH is it still tax free?

Not that I am any where close to being able to do that. Just dreaming. LOL

DS,
regarding retirement...

may i suggest to you new retirees that you get a retirement program evaluation like merrill lynch's and soon!

for a few $100, they evaluate your entire retirement strategy and give great (i mean terrific) recommendations.
i am suggesting that because i firmly believe that, if ya'll are really looking at your retirement in 2-3 year windows using only equities for funding, the focus is much too narrow and the time period much too short.

a longer term bear market would be devastating to your plans. 18 years ago interest rates were 18+%. equities were the last place place to be invested particularly for short-term (< 10 years) retirement needs. in those days real estate was gorilla and king.

the younger you are....the more important that you broaden your planning.

FWIW my goal is to always have my retirement safely funded for the next 10 years. i do that and still increase my net worth substantially every year, but i am prepared for far less.

added... and this will give my equity portfolio a long time to recover if a sudden unforeseen "LENGTHY" downdraft occurs...they do you know!
