My full IRA (6 securities + cash) transfer from MSDW is now complete as of today. Datek, my new IRA broker, kept me abreast of all details every step of the way via email. From the date Datek received my transfer forms, the process took only 9 business days. I was impressed with the communication and speed that Datek provided. The process: 01/01/2000 (SAT) - I opened the Datek IRA account online and printed out the necessary documents. 01/05/2000 (WED) - I FedExed the completed and signed documents to Datek. 01/06/2000 (THU) - I did a FedEx trace and confirmed Datek received the forms today. 01/10/2000 (MON) - Datek sends me email confirming "We received your completed application forms and have successfully activated your Datek IRA account" 01/12/2000 (WED) - Datek sends me email confirming "Your transfer request was received and is currently being processed. Please note that any account activity involving stocks that you intend to transfer may create delays in processing your request. Typically, partial transfers take from 7-10 business days to process and full account transfers take from 2-5 weeks to process." 01/13/2000 (THU) - MSDW shuts down trading access to my IRA account. 01/20/2000 (THU) - I receive email confirmations from Datek for each security and cash deposit in the new IRA account (6 securities & cash). I checked my Datek account online and all securities and cash are there available for trading.
