Right after Next Wave signed the deal with GBLX, Nextel came in and made a counterbid for NextWave. Mysteriously, NXTL backed off 2 days later. They must have been tipped off that the FCC would revoke NextWave's spectrum and give Nextel a chance to bid for the spectrum at a later time. JMHO, but I hate the way the FCC has been trying to accomodate Nextel's interests with respect to NextWave. Somebody at the FCC must be pretty good buddies with Craig McCaw. As a side note, NXTL is getting ready to lose their monopoly on their two way Diurect Connect program. Other wireless companies will soon be offering 2 way features in the near future. I think the FCC is desperately trying to find a way to throw Nextel a bone.
