mike, by what mechanism will gold hold value when there is a run on currencies? bgr is of the opinion that the us is too big for a currency run. the economist on pbs addressed this (not samuelson, but the other guy). he stated "you may think the us is to big and powerful to have a run on its currency, i may think it is too big. however, god might not think it is too big..."

well, a tight paraphrase anyway.
