More Brokerage comments - Fidelity and MSDW

Fidelity has their own committee which determines whether a stock is marginable at Fidelity or not. Fidelity is VERY conservative, which means that much of the garbage that we like to short is not marginable, therefore is goes in the cash account and can not be borrowed by other Fidelity shareholders wanting to go short. On the other hand, Fideilty's new Powerstreet for active traders has been very reliable - their webisite is always up and responsive and trade execution is exceptional. Fideility is good for long accounts and options trades.

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (Formerly Discover, formerly Lombard) Short share borrowing availability is good to excellent. Website availability has been poor recently. Some mornings the site is down for hours. Short sale execution crawls at a snails pace. Preferred accounts over $100,000 can get in on IPOs.WARNING - MSDW is planning to double their commission rates from $15/$20 to $30/$35 on April 1st (a bad April Fool's Joke) because of the great services to be offered by the full service side. I believe we can already get most of these services elsewhere for free and the poor website availability combined with a doubling of the commissions will cause accountholders to flee in droves.
