Petz - Re: "Engel, show me another reputable company (not INTEL) with capital gains which, on their press release for quarter earnings, does not report capital gains as a separate line item. Or, show me the Form 10-Q of a company with Capital Gains, that did not report it on a separate line on its Income Statement. Haven't found one yet? Keep looking, maybe you can find one other company in the DOW 30 that would stoop so low."

Intel - UP $12 to $103 1/16 !!

All the accountants seem to like Intel's income statement.

They didn't LIE about their income sources - they just established that they have an investment hoard that can be harvested at will.

Did you catch the UPGRADES ?

Most of the analysts were falling all over themselves with UPGRADES - Lehman, Paine-Webber, Robbie Stephens, CS First Boston, BT Alex Brown....

How much did AMD make on selling off some of their investments this year?

Of course, AMD's investments included their Headquarters Office building - they are reduced to RENTERS - here in the land of Milk and Honey of Silicon Valley !

And AMD sold off Vantis - a good deal since Vantis was headed south real fast under AMD !

And AMD is TRYING to sell off their antiquated Communications group - no buyers, apparently !

Petz, a one time capital gain could be a separate line item. However Intel is sitting on $5billion of capital appreciation, and apparently it intends to liquidate that on a regular basis. So the capital gain is going to be a regular item contributing to income, so it will get lumped with the regular items on the income statement.

Intels objective of the funding of small companies was to seed the companies whose which would increase PC demand. I believe that Intel's understanding with these companies was that Intel was to liquidate its holdings, as soon as these companies had access to public funding i.e after the IPO. In practice the liquidation has not been immediate, but is happening nevertheless.

So eventually the $5 billion will add to Intel's income over the next few years, and will be a part of the regular income.
