Mr Harmon, I respectfully sent you a Private Message inquiring as to why your 2000.01.14 eMail transmission through the CNBC sign-up vehicle referred to a previous eMail 2000.01.13. You seem to have chosen to ignore my private request that may NOT effect other SI threaders on here.

Therefore, I am voicing my concern over the apparently missing 2000.01.13 mailing. Is there some service I missed signing up for on CNBC and that is where that 2000.01.13 came from?

Epinions made the cover of NY Times Magazine last summer as a reporter followed its light-speed genesis beginning four months before the story appeared in an attempt to capture the zeitgeist of this internet enabled capitalistic age. Epinions business plan called for it being fully functional by the past holiday season to capitalize on the seasonal boom time for consumer spending. The author concluded the article on a skeptical note that any company should be put together so quickly with investor support without its founders first having attempted to answer the question of whether or not there were a truly viable market for it's product, for everything about the reasoning for Epinions creation smacked of knee-jerk, solipsistic daydreaming by some impetuously ambitious entrepreneur programmers. The reporter crystalized this thought with the concluding phrase: ready, fire, aim. I have heard nothing about them since; although I did check and saw that they do have a functioning web site. What do you think is in store for their future? Success?

steve - caution in order re. internets. first viewing cmgi chart - large unfilled gap in the 50s and stock in downward channel - potential to give up (at least temporarily) the huge quick gains from late last year:

iqc.com

second - surprise from investment banker at MIT Enterprise forum:
boston.internet.com

trigger could be the fed rate hike after the upcoming one. i think this year could be the year that internets finish with no gain from beginning of year. in 1998 many had ended the year in corrective (fear) phase which was pause that refreshed going into 1999. in 1999 many ended year on large quick gains (greed phase) which will require correction (fear phase) in 2000.
