Hi Malcolm, I have successfully been selling puts on the horsemen for a few years now, and I think your analogy of insurance is spot on--the strategy is especially profitable during minicrashes/corrections. It's nice to have steady inflows of cash into the port--the puts virtually always expire (in my case, always) if they are deep enough in the money.

The put selling guru on SI is "edamo"--he has written persuasively at length about the technique.
