<the application of memory in data networking of any flavor (IP/ATM/SONET) is very high>

Thanks for your answer. Currently, what type of memory is being used? I have heard that static RAM (SRAM) is inherently faster, and therefore more suitable for high-speed applications in telecom. Carrier-class telecom equipment is less price-sensitive than the PC market, so the use of more expensive static RAM is justified, isn't it?

Actually, I have never heard of SDRAM (synchronous DRAM, the type used in PCs) being used in telecommunications hardware. There appears to be a major incompatibility between the technical performance of DRAMs and the technical requirement of telecom equipment... Since Rambus DRAM is currently used only for PC applications, does that mean that Rambus DRAM has no hope of displacing static-RAM in the telecom market?
