Perhaps you have nailed it, and my irritability got the better of me. If so, my apologies. I will look into it.....I do appear to have been confused, and it seems I must have been mistaken on the application process. The original material I got from Social Security mentioned the Disability Program as coming out of FICA taxes; I was not aware that they ran a program under the aegis of supplemental income.....

By the way, I do want to underscore that they receive benefits under Social Security, not the program mentioned by nihil.......

I always mix up the acronyms. The state/federal program is called SSI - Supplemental Security Insurance. The way I understand it, SSDI is Social Security Disability Insurance.

I occasionally forget to hit the submit button after previewing a post --- this was one such case.
