88,

trying to execute quick position trades in the rainy season would be a big no-no where i am as the biggest problem is power outages during storms. i would think that the power grid is better maintained on samui, so that would be less of a problem.

as for the isp's i have finally found one with decent reliability and relative quickness, but maintain accounts with three to be on the safe side. only last year there were no local dial-ups in my province; now there are five or six and prices (which are relatively high by us standards) are also dropping.

put it this way, i am far more fearful of not being able to get thru to waterhouse on a blitz trading session than i am about isp troubles. indeed i have had some trades mucked up this month by waterhouse difficulties, not isp inaccessibility. i think the question of online broker reliability in a massive sell-off should be given serious thought by folks who rely on those services. FWIW i make sure to maintain 20-30% short in my account, as i want to be on the relatively unconcerned side when the waves of panic selling crash the online brokers...at least if such an event does occur.
