I don't know, and I'm not sure it matters. I do know the current recipients are getting large payouts relative to what they put in, that "the elderly" are the wealthiest demographic group in the US, that there is no means testing with benefits starting at what I consider to be middle-age, and that the only people paying for any of this in any appreciable manner are those that started their peak earnings years in the 1990s. Thats really all I need to know, imo.
