Brian, thanks for the article on the new DRAM alliance. Sounds like they're going to compete with Cisco (the new DRAM format will use packet data).

The new DRAM format will use packet data, similar to the
current Direct Rambus DRAM architecture, but it will also offer a wider bandwidth, lower latency, lower cost and will be
scalable to new memory densities, said a spokesman for the new alliance.

Do the packets have source and destination addresses and CRCs?

Oh well, I guess one way to liven DRAM talk is to use network data transmission lingo.

Tony

Dear Brian and all: What does this mean? I am planning on buying a new computer this year and was going to go with the Rambus DRAM. Do you suppose one could later upgrade? Why would Rambus not be in the alliance? Sounds strange to me, especially since INTC is currently pushing Rambus I thought. JDN
