Windows 2000 to ship early

posted 9:40am EST Mon Jan 17 2000

NEWS
According to CNET, PC makers such as Compaq Computer,
Hewlett-Packard, Dell Computer, and IBM will start selling
systems with Windows 2000 on them on January
24--approximately three weeks before Microsoft plans to
officially unveil the new operating system to the world.

While people who are buying new PCs will be able to own
Windows 2000 before the launch date, the retail version will
not go on sale until February.

JOEL'S OPINION
This is definitely a smart move for Microsoft. This way the
channels will already be full, with copies of Windows 2000
shipping on new PCs even before Micosoft starts its HUGE
marketing campaign.
