For "proprietary" chip sets, each manufacturer/designer will have to bear the brunt of design, manufacturing, test and VERIFICATION.

That does take some of the effort OFF Intel's shoulders - at least in the short term.

Still, infinitely better than having no-one designing around your new processor, like maybe with that other company on the other side of Lawrence Expressway.

Maybe someone is designing around Athlon? ;^))
