Jim -
You are assuming that DELL has not or will not have their products certified by ship date.
I am making no such assertion. I am pointing out that the products are not certified today, and that therefore commercial customers are unlikely to place orders for those products in time for any January shipments. I am making no assumptions here.

I suppose it is possible that DELL simply could not get the product certified in time (or is working to squeak under the wire) but I think that is VERY unlikely. DELL has known about this product cycle for months and they have adequate engineering talent to get the certifications done, if that was their intent.

Meathead pointed out that the Win2K compliant BIOS is not currently available - the introduction of a BIOS update might be tied to other product cycle issues which made a later date a better choice. After thinking about it a little, it seems most likely that they chose not to certify the workstations at launch for this or some other valid reason.
