Glenn, seriously, did they make off with all your jewelry? Did insurance cover all your losses? Feel free to pm if you prefer.

Rob,

They took three cases merchandise. One of engagement rings, one of colored stone rings and one of watches. We have excellent pictures of them on closed circuit TV. I am insured although with a $10K deductable. It is not as bad as it appears since I have been in this business for 30 years and only had the problem twice.

The first occurance was in the Meadville store in 1989 and at that time, I only carried insurance for burglary not for robbery. The good part in this one was the two perpetrators were caught. The sad part is they pleaded innocent and used a well known laywer from Pittsburgh to handle their defence. The lawyer was paid in cash. I wonder where that cash came from<G> They were found gulity and ordered to pay me $275K in restitution and given ten years in a maximum security facility. Anyhow, they were both released on probation in 1994. I am planning on the restitution payment to come in when I retire. If you believe me on the last part, I know of a bridge for sale<VBG>

n today's world, I suppose a small business owner must be thankful for your record. Sad state of affairs....

I am not complaining because our record has been good. The smaller stores that have maybe the owner and one employee have real problems. One in the Meadville area was shot in the head about eight years ago. The small guy does not have as much for the robber to obtain but the risk is small with maybe only two people on the premises. My stores never have less than five working in each at a time.
