Eric,

I hadn't heard of KOPN until you mentioned it, but their website describes their active matrix flat panel display that is optically amplified to a perceived larger image.

The MVIS technology differs in that a laser beam is painted via micromirrors and piezoelectric crystals directly upon the viewer's retina, and allows "see-through" superimposition of real life upon appropriate visual data. This allows the military and medical applications described on their website: www.mvis.com

MVIS thinks that their solution will be ultimately cheaper than flat panel displays, and the see-through capability may be unique to the MVIS technology.

I have yet to experience one of these devices, but I'll be looking for one and report back when I've had the chance.
