This is the same reason why AMD has lower Athlon prices than Coppermine: to establish the platform. With comparable performance, the PC manufacturer's need a reason (price) to make the effort/investment to work with a different processor.

Of course, PC vendors should like the idea of having two suppliers to provide cost competition.

Why didn't Intel cut the Celeron prices, aren't the Coppermine 128K's already in production and ready to replace them?
