In the instance you are citing, Intel is only competing with itself.

AMD has zero presence in the IT Notebook space. Intel is launching a very high volume platform tomorrow that is squarely aimed at the IT notebook space. It is in Intel's best interests to make dramatic price cuts across its older platform to drive the new platform. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. It is a more than acceptable business practice, and ultimately consumers benefit.

IMO, citing the Mobile platform price cuts, when AMD has dubious presence in the target market, is a sham.

I haven't been following the notebook CPU price issue as carefully as I should, but I do know that in Q4 there seemed to be a dramatic increase in the retail K6-2 notebook ads. The Celeron to a degree, but particularly the PII/PIII notebooks nearly disappeared. This move (Intel price cut) may be as much an attempt to regain lost share as it is one to control the market.

As I said, I haven't been following that carefully, so my comment may be wrong.
