Bizarely Sony Playstation II is a design within which DDR would have worked quite well (other than the granularity issue).

That is because it needs only a few memory chips, and they are soldered to the board. With such a controlled environment, once it works, it works. In the more open PC environment there have to be design rules, and compliance tests for all the things dumb users are going to plug into the slots. That's what Intel and Rambus have put in place.

I think it might be a bit unfair to keep recycling the "unstable" quote a year on from when it was made.
