Andover.Net Licenses GIFWorks 3.0 to Lycos' Community Sites; Animation Now Easy

for Homepage Builders

Business/Technology Editors

ACTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2000--

Agreement Enables Tripod and Angelfire Users to Access Powerful,
Online Graphics Software Application Through Co-Branded Sites

Andover.Net (NASDAQ:ANDN), the leading Linux and IT destination,
has entered into a licensing agreement with Lycos, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCOS),
the fastest growing portal and world's largest online community.
GIFWorks 3.0 is now available on Tripod (http://www.tripod.lycos.com/)
and Angelfire (http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/).
GIFWorks is a free online application that allows Web builders to
select, process and create animations online with a standard Web
browser--at no cost. The year long licensing agreement lets Tripod and
Angelfire members access GIFWorks through co-branded sites
(http://tripod.gifworks.com/ and angelfire.gifworks.com. As
part of the agreement, Andover.Net receives a portion of the
advertising revenue.
"The addition of GIFWorks to Lycos' community sites, Tripod and
Angelfire, makes perfect sense and will let our users quickly and
easily enhance their personal Web sites. Our members' homepages will
reflect more personality and interactivity. GIFWorks' features will
help add zest," said Don Zereski, Tripod's general manager.

GIFWorks--Online, Free Application

GIFWorks is one of the Internet's first free online software
applications that uses the Web as a powerful, cost-effective computing
platform. Using GIFWorks, Tripod and Angelfire homepage builders can
animate, optimize and apply special effects to any GIF, easily adding
it to their Web pages. Since all processing is done on Andover.Net
servers--at a rate faster than the average PC--there is no
time-consuming download or complicated installation. With GIFWorks'
Windows-like interface, the latest versions are always used and new
animations are created in seconds. GIFWorks supports Linux, Mac and PC
platforms. In fact, even people without computers, such as Web-TV
users, can create animations with GIFWorks.
Andover.Net's GIFWorks 3.0 includes 20 new effects similar to
those found in expensive packaged graphic design applications such as
chalk, emboss, oil paint and watercolor. In addition, GIFWorks 3.0
features several new editing tools, including insert text, smart crop,
replace color, optimize to a Web-safe palette and add/remove
transparency.
"GIFWorks has a tremendous following, one that will surely
increase now that it is accessible through Tripod," said Bruce
Twickler, president and CEO of Andover.Net. "We're pleased that Tripod
and Angelfire see the benefits of GIFWorks as an online application
and are excited to offer this application to their members."
