I defended the Bay NT merger to the US investment community many moons ago(nt@~35us).I had suggested that based on comparable valuations with LU and CSCO that 99 should see NT in the +70 range. While NT has not been (until the Beatles comm's) a widely recognized concern in the US investment community, it must be realized that NT holds a significant portion of the backbone market in the world. That NT had reduced from their dominant position in the fibre world some years ago, they none the less maintained an aggressive position (internal R+D and optical switching) as a technical hedge. I see some trepidation from certain sectors; as NT buys their way back into the hot optical sector. I believe that the company has internal expertise second to none in the world to manage these acquisitions, and to profit from this expertise by providing their broad base of customers with leading edge solutions.

I realize that these threads are intended to provide aggressive investors with the news that will make all rich. In one year NT has trebled. I am not a strong supporter of the current valuations of many of the tech sector. NT is a very old concern in todays terms, yet consistently matches up with the darling of the day. Today: Mr. Roth is probably one of the better "young telecom" minds running a major telecomm infrastructure provider. I fully beleive that Roths catch word for the day is Peta, not Tera.

I have no vested interest in NT. Am I a bull on NT given these valuations..??? Given the breadth of NT's involvement in the communications world, it would be reticent to not think the company is in a good position to go forward. I only pipe up when I see the news of the day driving aimlessly. I mostly believe that at this point in the infrastructure BW race, that NT has a significant edge due to her world wide installed customer base. The fact that it has been SONET based telephony (and the wireless and premises etc.) only strengthens the companies position by implying that previously satisfied customers may upgrade with newer NT solutions.
Having read many k's of of you folk's and profited, I do have to pipe up once in a while
