Earlie...Notice of the Intel hedge fund is giving legitimacy to practice. siliconinvestor.com .......The executive also outlined the increasing importance of Compaq's investment portfolio, which includes an 18% stake in the Internet-company incubator CMGI Inc. (CMGI), as well as other Web properties. The portfolio has unrealized stock gains of $6 billion to $8 billion, or about 20% of Compaq's stock-market value, Capellas estimated. Although he admitted that there might be "a bit of poetic license" to those numbers, Capellas said Compaq's portfolio has become so lucrative that it will probably become a legitimate profit center for the company in the near future. "You will absolutely see us buying and trading properties, especially in the Internet space," he said...... Steve
