Murrey, We may tend to look at the ETEK acquisition with tunnel vision. At least i used to think this way until it occured to me that JDSU could consider getting ETEK in order to prevent SDLI from getting their hands on it. I changed my opinion when i realized that the
Lucents and Nortels are component manufacturers themselves. I had posted about the posibility of ETEK being a takeover possibility even for JDSU about a month ago.

I saw an interview of the CEO of Lucent on CNBC. When asked about JDSU, he stated the Lu was number 1 or 2 in many areas.

The lucents and nt's planned increases in production make the possibility of JDSU acquiring a "monopolistic" position in "passive" components less of a concern for regulators.
Unfortunately, the media has not been mentioning NT and LU's capabilities.

I did notice KK and the CEO of ETEK make reference to these companies internal capabilities.

You can bet JDSU would not have bothered going after ETEK if these two were the only sources for passives for Lu and NT.
