SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 2000--Robertson Stephens Managing Director and Senior Specialty Retailing Analyst Janet Joseph Kloppenburg, a 1999 Wall Street Journal All-Star Analyst, today raised estimates and reiterated her Buy rating on Charlotte Russe Holding, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHIC). Charlotte Russe is a leading-branded-specialty retailer of moderately priced contemporary-women's apparel in the mall today.

"We are reiterating our Buy rating on Charlotte Russe, following the company's announcement of better-than-expected fiscal-first-quarter 2000 financial results," said Kloppenburg. "The company reported an earnings-per-share of $0.23, versus $0.15 during the same period last year, well ahead of our $0.18 estimate and representing 52 percent earnings growth. Including an extraordinary loss related to the early extinguishment of debt, earnings-per-share was $0.22."

"In our view, upside to our estimates was due primarily to much better-than-expected sales, as total sales rose 36.8 percent to $62.9 million, driven by a strong 6.4 percent comp gain, ahead of our original 2 percent estimate and fueled by equally strong sales at both the Charlotte Russe and Rampage concepts."

"Due to better-than-expected results, we are raising our fiscal 2000 and fiscal 2001 earnings-per-share estimates to $0.75 and $1.02 from $0.69 and $1.00, respectively, and believe these estimate may prove conservative as well," said Kloppenburg.
