John, Your Christo-slavic prejudice blinds you to even the most hackneyed evidences.... Not only was Arkan snuffed out by Draskovic's henchmen, but the plot was likely blessed, even so grudgingly, by Milosevic himself:Reporter, Serbian national bi-weekly from Banja Luka, 22 Jul 99 ARKAN - DEFENDANT OR WITNESS? The case of an alleged contact between Zeljko Raznjatovic Arkan, the ICTY and Belgian Government has been covered with mystery these days. As a U.S. TV network reported last week, Pierre Schome, one of the most renown lawyers in Brussels, contacted the Belgian state prosecutor and the ICTY at least twice, asking about the conditions of Arkan's stay in Belgium and of his "surrendering" to the Tribunal. This information was published by all the leading world media and, while NBC sources were trying to get a confirmation from U.S. officials, ICTY Spokesperson Christian Chartier, said that the Tribunal considered the information a rumor, but that all the indicted were welcome to come to the Hague. Arkan's comment was just: "This is nonsense!" And just when it seemed to be just another hoax of Western media, a sensational confession came from Brussels: the city prosecutor confirmed that there had been a contact between Arkan and a Belgian lawyer, who offered the extradition of Arkan. "We told him that we could apprehend and probably extradite him. We have not had any contact since," said the prosecutor's spokesperson. Even more fuss was caused by some unnamed sources at the Belgian State Prosecutor's Office, who confirmed that on June 25, the day of the alleged last contact of Schome with legal institutions, "the Hague committed several procedural mistakes, which slowed down the reaction of the Belgian Government to Arkan's offer." But this was not the end of surprises. Although the INTERPOL put Arkan on the list of the ten most wanted people in Europe, Arkan risked being arrested twice in the past two years. The failure to arrest him was explained by "misinformation about his flight." "Raznjatovic has several false identities, so that the real one can be determined only with the use of fingerprints," said one of the officials. Many foreign media state that this is just the beginning of the "Arkan case," and that things will move much faster now that "Serbs have started raising their voices against the regime". They also state that Arkan will be the key witness against Slobodan Milosevic. In return, he will just serve a short prison sentence. However, Raznjatovic has never publicly admitted that he was under Milosevic's command. It is not known how much he supported Milosevic, but he did not like Vuk Draskovic and Vojislav Seselj much, while they were in opposition parties.bosnet.org Arkan managed to escape from his Belgian jail in 1979. One of his burglary in Belgium was a home-jacking against a Jewish couple: to have them spilling the beans, he just stuck his shooter on their baby's nose.... So, it seems that Arkan was successfully bargaining his abiding by the ICTY as a witness.... Obviously, Arkan's deal would have involved hanging the whole Kosovo rap on Milosevic as Serbia's Commander-in-Chief.
