MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- SGI SGI today announced that Betsy Rafael has
been named senior vice president and chief financial officer for the corporation. She succeeds Steve
Gomo, who has resigned to pursue another opportunity with a private, non-competing firm.

"We are sorry to see Steve leave SGI. During his two-year tenure as CFO, Steve led the company's
efforts to strengthen SGI's financial foundation by reducing our expense structure, improving our
operational effectiveness and recognizing value on some of the company's underlying assets," said
Bob Bishop, chairman and chief executive officer. "We thank him for all his contributions and wish
Steve the best of luck in his new job."

"I am pleased to have Betsy Rafael join my executive management team," added Bishop. "Her strong
financial and operational leadership during the past two years as corporate controller made her the
obvious choice. Having worked closely with Steve Gomo during this time, I expect the transition to go
very smoothly."

Rafael brings 16 years of financial and operations experience to the job. Rafael has held a variety of
senior financial positions at SGI, most recently as corporate controller. Prior to joining SGI, Rafael
held a variety of financial positions and Sun Microsystems, Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc.

"I am looking forward to this opportunity and hope to continue to build upon the improvements we have
made over the last two years," said Rafael.
