The problem with your argument is that it ignores the history of the debate. If you remember, and I am sure you do, the argument made by the apologists for pollution USED to be, "there is NO global warming." Now, all of a sudden, sure, there's global warming, but it's part of a natural trend. And besides, it's good for us. Could we at least have a moment of silent prayer for the "there is no global warming" argument, which seems to have died a well-deserved death?

Your focus on Clinton is amazingly myopic. This debate has been going on for decades. If you want to blame the Left, you're ignoring the fact that the worst pollution in Western Europe is in East Germany, the worst pollution in Asia is in China, the worst pollution, bar none, is in the former Soviet Union.

Edit: I have to finish making supper, and SI is too slow, so I hope you won't be offended, but I've gotta go.

Acid rain was another myth. Seems we should send the crazy politico-environmentalists a bill for that one.
