Paul, One of the higher up manager was telling us that in early 90s only hand full of people really followed intel back then. Currently if you see there a lot more people scrutinizing Intel. He thought it was positive because people cared for what Intel does. It is a very enviable position to be in. In such a scenario your mistakes are amplified and your accomplishments played down because you are expected to deliver. That probably explains the analysts reaction to any news from intel good or bad. mula
