<<Scott F was dragging everyones sorry asses all over the place on the mountain too. These goofballs pay 65k so they can brag about making it to their friends, while some sherpas are actually carrying the poor bastards up the
hill. Its pretty revolting. >>

And Fisher used poor judgement in indulging them. And he was sore that Krakuaer went with Hall instead of him.

Boukreev, Fisher's assistant, spoke little english, and when the storm started coming in, he sensed it right away as well as the traffic jam, and got the hell down, but by himself.
That was that negative; the positive was that he did go out repeatedly from the high tents and save people. This latter part is truly an incredible feat. Most others in the tents were not even conscious by that time.

I also rented Boukreev's book in audio, on tape. Most of the book is told through the translator. But for the description of the rescues from the high camp, Boukreev tells the story himself on the tape in his broken english, and it is heartbreaking. He describes running from tent to tent asking for help, and then failing that, asking for oxygen. Both requests went unanswered at each tent, then he just went out alone into the white-out storm. Several times this sequence was repeated.

OT

Nova tonight had the search for Mallory's body - they found him, btw. The early climbers didn't have oxygen either - or any of the modern equipment for that matter. Krakauer's book implied not using oxygen if you were a guide was somewhat irresponsible...
