In case you didn't know this, markets have a tendency of looking forward. I guess the market has decided that Intel's prospects moving forward are pretty good. And in the process, has recorded some of the most profitable Q's on the planet.

Funny you pick '97 as your starting point. The semi sector started a recession then. Semi's tend to be cyclical (except AMD).
