Fujitsu PC Corp. Announces Notebook Models With Intel Pentium III Processors With Intel SpeedStep Technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2000--

New LifeBook(TM) E Series and C Series Models offer "no compromise" computing with more features and higher performance

Fujitsu(R) PC Corporation (FPC) today announced new models of its popular E Series and C Series notebook computers that incorporate Intel's new Pentium(R) III processors featuring Intel SpeedStep technology to provide more features and higher performance for mobile computer users.

The new Intel(R) SpeedStep technology, announced today by Intel, enables mobile computers to operate at higher CPU speeds while using AC power and automatically switch to a lower processing speed when using battery power.

Both new Fujitsu models, the LifeBook E Series Model E-6550 and the LifeBook C Series Model C-6557, feature the Intel Pentium III processor at 650MHz with Intel SpeedStep technology running at 1.6V. In battery mode, the system operates at 500MHz to deliver maximum battery life while retaining high processing performance. Both models include a 14.1" XGA TFT display, 128MB RAM, a 12GB hard drive, a modular DVD drive, a built-in modem and a wireless IR mouse.

"The new mobile Pentium III processors featuring Intel SpeedStep technology virtually eliminates the performance gap between desktop and mobile computers," said Steve Andler, FPC vice president of marketing. "In the office, our notebooks featuring Intel SpeedStep technology deliver full desktop processing performance. When switched to battery mode, they are automatically configured for optimized battery life. Our customers can enjoy the best of both worlds full desktop performance in the office and exceptional battery life in the field."

"Intel and Fujitsu have worked together to deliver the most advanced mobile processor technology to Fujitsu Customers," said Robert Jecmen, vice president and general manager of Intel's Mobile Computing Group. "With these new LifeBook models, Fujitsu is providing their customers with more power to work, learn, play or shop where, when and how they desire."

New Models Designed for Business and Multimedia Applications

The E Series Model E-6550 is optimized for business applications, with DMI/WFM, a flexible bay design, choice of docking options, SMART hard drives and advanced storage bay devices including 24X CD-ROM drive, 6X DVD drive or 4x/4x/20x CD-RW drive. The system also integrates the new LifeBook Security Panel, a four-button security panel with 800,000 possible combinations designed to deter unauthorized use.

The C Series Model C-6557 is designed for home users, students, gamers and business users that value a high-end multimedia experience with distinctive styling. The system features the LifeBook Application Panel with personal CD player a panel of four programmable buttons which the user can use to launch Internet, email and/or software applications in one easy step, and also allows the user to listen to audio CDs similar to a portable CD player.

Both models are expected to be available in early February through Fujitsu PC Direct (at www.FPCDirect.com or 1-877-FPCDIRECT) as well as Fujitsu*s retail and reseller channels(1).
