<<1% germanium to silver prevents silver from tarnishing. Can anyone see any implications for additional silver use, due to this?
How about germanium? how much does germanium go for and who mines it?>>

WOW a faster way to make a more pure "sterling" the uses as an improved electrical connection should be great as the only thing that held silver back was the oxidation. I suspect we will see it as wire used in the bonding process for IC's.

Of the germanium, here's a UK MSDS:
crystran.co.uk
I was thinking it was commonly occuring as "sand" just like silicon.

another supplier:
stanfordmaterials.com

mp, that's very interesting. I could see the "practical" in our society turn in their stainless steel flatware and tableware for silver if the tarnishing of silver is minimized. You may have learned something very important that could affect the silver market IMO. However, I want to learn more about this before jumping in.

MP, I have been searching everywhere for that news about silver germanium, but can't find anything. Where did you hear about it? Thanks.
