John,

There are probably very few people who hope more than I do that your "70s" prediction comes true soon.

RE Greenspan and 50 bp hike:

If the Fed does that, I believe it will just accelerate the pace at which MTSN gets to the 70s.

1. New economy / high growth companies have ready access to "zero-cost" capital through offerings.

2. Old economy companies will, at the margin, defer investments thus further exaggerating the difference between their growth and that of the "MTSNs".

3. There's no sign whatsoever of inflation. As long as the Fed insists on being preemptive, I suspect that the investors will pull money out of bonds which go down as yields go up, pull money out of staid old economy stocks which the Feds tight money policy will hit and continue to pour money into high tech, high growth companies.

And we'll see the Fed in absolute consternation failing to understand that their well intentioned actions have precipitated precisely those behaviours in the stock market that is of concern to them.

Other than that, I have no opinions whatsoever.

Best wishes,
Ian.
