Juniper Networks turns in first profit since IPO

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan 18 (Reuters) - Juniper Networks
Inc., one of several computer networking companies that have
staged high-flying initial public offerings in recent months,
on Tuesday reported a profit in its fourth-quarter as sales
surged.
Juniper <JNPR.O>, which makes a super-fast router that is
challenging market leader Cisco Systems Inc., said net income
for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31 -- including amortization
of goodwill and a deferred compensation charge -- was $3.1
million, or 2 cents a share, compared with a loss of $9.28
million, or 22 cents, in the same period a year earlier.
Revenue rose almost 12-fold to $45.4 million from $3.81
million. It was the Mountain View, Calif.-based company's first
profit since staging its IPO in June
