ahhaha,

I'm curious to see what the upcoming BB site will look like.

The model we talked about has got me captivated. I'm trying to put the elements of what we discussed together in a way that can be readily explained and understood. That's proving to be difficult.

I concur regarding the idea of pipelining. Probably have nearly direct hops to web servers.

In the last couple of weeks I speed tested Four different access connections. A cable modem, a B rate ISDN link, a nailed up 10 MB pipe and a 56 K modem. The cable modem and the 10 MB pipe were nearly identical in quality. The 10 mB pipe costs 10x the price of the cable modem service but all were lacking in throughput because of the latecies associated the mulitude of slow hops.

Hopefully the excite portal will eliminate these slow hops and pipeline their service to differentiate themselves from Yahoo et al.

Whatever the solution they should add a voice switch overlay; some ATM links so the site can support isochronous comm. As you can tell, I haven't given up on the VoIP idea althought the idea becomes less compelling as time goes on due to the plummeting price of long distance.
