John Q,Re: Low analyst estimates for E&P's. I think quite a bit of it is intentional. 1) They look better when the companies beat estimates and they have a buy recommendation 2) They are not sure where oil prices are going in the next 6 months so they are very conservative here 3) They do not want to increase the earnings estimates only to decrease them later if OPEC dramatically increases production in March (unlikely imho) 4) You're right...they are clueless.
