Transmeta info

aceshardware.com

"As mentioned previously, there are both high-end and low-end versions of Transmeta's Crusoe processor. The 400 MHz low-end version has 96 KB of L1 cache, while the 700 MHz high-end version has 128 KB. The low-end version also sports an integrated north-bridge with a DDR controller.

The CPU core itself is 128-bit VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word...somewhat similar to Intel's EPIC). Indeed, the BIOS/PROM seems much like FX!32, and the test system is even running Windows 2000 and Power Point right now!"

"400 MHz, 106 KB on-die cache, dissipates 1W
700 MHz, 400 KB on-die cache, dissipates 1W

As you can see, there are two different versions, one for the low-end and one for the high-end. There are three development teams from the United States, Taiwan, and Japan. IBM will be fabbing the chip.

As to the microcode speculation regarding ISA support, it seems very much like FX!32 (x86 translator/emulator package for Alpha CPUs). We'll keep you updated as we learn more."
