Process Boy ,< I don't know very much about StrongARM. Is there an x86 emulator currently for StrongARM? If there isn't, would it be a difficult thing to do? >

A software based emulator should be easy to do. However Transmeta has significant innovations in emulation, and so a standard emulator will probably have worse performance than Tranmeta.

It remains to be seen what kind of products Transmeta will empower. Just a lower power notebook will not be enough. This reminds me of Cyrix. A few years ago they find a hole in Intel's line up by exploiting the "higher power" of Pentium. They came up with a non superscalar processor with higher performance than 486, but the power dissipation of a 486. This theoretically appealed to the notebook market. But in practice due to the process and design improvements on the Pentium, the window of opportunity for Cyrix closed shut within six months. So a similar fate might meet Transmets if Intel can tweak TIMNA.
