Tom,

All the questions you ask make up the process of Point & Figure Charting. PnF is a simple methodology of charting supply and demand.

There are several methods of Technical Analysis being used by traders today, and PnF is just one of them. I like PnF, because it follows the KISS priciple (Keep It Simple Stupid).

If you are interested in learning more, I suggest you first visit the Dorsey Wright web site @ dorseywright.com and look for the PnF University section. It will help a bunch.

If you are interested in going further than that, I strongly recommend Tom Dorsey's book on Point & Figure Charting, listed on his site.

There is also a Dorsey Wright thread here on SI and there are several people that will help with your questions as you learn. Also, Jorj and Jan (the namesakes of this thread) are wonderful. Tom Dorsey, aka The Big Guy, appears regularly on the other thread.
