1. Part of the low power benefit arises from far fewer transistors on the Transmeta chip
2. If fewer transistors were switching, it could be less noisy, electrically
3. The max voltage is dictated by the process, and is where max operating frequency would be used; at lower voltages, less noise would be generated, and the frequency of operation would be less, allowing more time for switching transients to abate.
4. Processors have moved from 5V to 3.3V to 2.5V to 1.8V, and will continue to drop with thinner oxides. Are current chips glitchier and buggier than those a few years ago?
