Look at the middle of this page about 3/4 the way down.

My understanding is ADI has shipped around 2 million chips set already and ALA said they had. Then there is all the other chip makers like NEC, Centillium, TI, ST Micro, Seimens and others. A small local ISP has DSL in 5-6 towns and are adding more all the time, check them out.

And check here for an ISP with DSL in your area code.

Italy Minister Urges Telecom Watchdog To OK ADSL Soon
By Reuters staff
24 January 2000
Italian Public Works Minister Franco Bassanini on Monday called on the telecommunications watchdog to move quickly to allow the introduction of ADSL/ATM Internet access technologies in Italy.

A commissioner for the regulator, the Telecommunications Authority, had said earlier Telecom Italia , which has requested a licence to operate the new technology, will have to wait for its competitors to catch up before launching high-speed Internet wholesale services based on the ADSL/ATM technology.

"The Authority is rightly concerned about guaranteeing equal conditions for everyone. But we must urge the regulator to quickly give the green light to the introduction of ADSL technology, otherwise the country will be left without networks that are speedy enough," Bassanini said.

The Authority is expected to rule on Tuesday whether to grant Telecom Italia's internet provider Tin.it a licence to sell the new service.

Telecom Italia said in a statement it was "surprised" by the remarks made by Authority commissioner Alessandro Luciano on the possible outcome of Tuesday's ruling.
