i disagree with the thrust of your post. if windows 2000 is a success and microsoft research and investment produces good products for the future, the stock will go up. if not, we are in big trouble and nothing that the cfo says will help.

I'm pleased that Microsoft removes speculators' rose coloured glasses from time to time. The last thing shareholders need is a speculative bubble or a lawsuit claiming company officials mislead investors.

Since Microsoft purchases shares from time to time, I suppose they want to get them for the lowest possible price. A few well chosen words can save their treasury a substantial sum. I view this as managing their resources with great skill; thus, I'm compelled to continue holding.
