Elmer and THREAD:

Here's a snippet from Fleck's Tired Tirade:

"As a matter of fact, when you combine Intel and Microsoft, you get a total market capitalization of about
$900 billion, which is beyond staggering when you consider that we only sell about $150 billion worth of
PCs annually in the world. Now, I know that both companies are trying to do other things besides putting
their products inside PCs. But their combined market cap is over six times the total value of all PCs sold
(let's not forget that the operating system and the processor comprise only about 25 percent of the value
of a PC). So they need to be doing a lot of other things, and fast. It just goes to show you how
completely absurd market values are these days."

I wonder how much $$ he's burned shorting MSFT & INTC?

Elmer - Re: ". Who's gonna buy them if they make more?"

Cherrry Sanders is a Slash and Burn marketing guy from the old Fairchild days.

He will SLASH Athwiper prices to get sales.

He has already done this - about two days ago - with 20% CUTS in high end AthWIPER prices.

Elmer & Intel Investors - Breath Easy - Transmeta is now "fessing up" to their performance hits.

Such as the following:

news.cnet.com

"The performance of the 5400 running at 667 MHz is about the same as a Pentium III running at 500 MHz, said Doug Laird, vice president of product development. However, Transmeta is encouraging the use of benchmarks that account for the temporary lag during the translation and for the extended battery life the chips will enable. "

That implies that the Crusoe is only 75% as fast as an equivalently clocked Pentium III - BEST CASE (for TransMeta !).

Thus, TransMeta's 500 MHz 5400 - not yet available - will be equivalent to a 375 MHz Pentium III.

Now - because of this, Intel's power consumption should be DERATED as WELL !!!

In other words, it would be TOTALLY inappropriate to compare a 667 MHz Crusoe chip to a 667 Pentium III - since the Crusoe chip only performs as fast as a 500 MHz Pentium III.

Thus, the proper POWER comparison would be to compare a 667 MHz Transmeta Cruseo chip to a 500 MHz Pentium III MOBILE chip.
