Tell that to Robert Rubin, Laurence Summers or Kodak or U.S. trade rep or any company or govt that has ever had dealings with the Japanese. Rarely is anything done in an expedient manner.

Not sure Kodak is a valid example. It was primarily a trade dispute about access to Japan's markets. In that case, Japanese gov't, courts, etc. have the ultimate jurisdiction (our legal system obviously can't force retailers in Japan to buy Kodak products). In this case, Rambus has filed in a U.S. court and our legal system has jurisdiction. If Hitachi drags their heels, it will simply p*** off the judge and hurt them in the case. The ultimate dispute will be about access to U.S. markets, not Japanese markets.
