HI Saturn 5,

Yes that was a very optimistic estimate. In an ideal transition, development on 32 bit OS stops and development on 64 bit OS starts. While the old 32 bit applications are still supported in the system, but they are gradually being phased out. That is no new development takes place on 32 bit OSes.

I would rather see an alternate supplier of Office suit, which can read in the MSFT tools output (data) files. That way we slowly start freeing the software industry from the strangle hold of MSFT. If we expect MSFT to develop the 64 bit version of the Office suit then we are in at the mercy of MSFT.

My point is this is the chance to get out of the strange hold of MSFT for the computing industry. Question is will somebody step forward and do it. We already started seeing alternate OSes for IA-64 coming out with product demos.
