So, Intel's business of previous quarter showed a similar pattern with that of Microsoft .No surprise to me, one Intel's CPU came with one copy of Microsoft's OS. It is common sense in marketing, Microsoft is in a transition period from NT to Win2000, so is Intel from current CPU to new product of faster CPU. Say , you want to buy a PC in Dec, but the vendor told you if you bought in last December, you will have a slower CPU with NT, or wait till Jan 24, you will have a PC with the most advanced CPU and Win2000, will you wait one more month to buy your PC ? In the transition period, Microsoft new upcoming new product, the Win2k , will compete with its own old product.People will buy till the new product is released. So, the release of win2k will be a big thing , not only to Microsoft, but to Intel and all the box makers, because people will start to buy the long waited new products. I see July's earning will be a huge one for Microsoft and the whole PC industry. If people upgraded their computers from 80486 to Pantium , or from Pantium to the current PC, I do not see why people will stop upgrading from the current PC to the most advanced ones, besides, PC is getting cheaper, and more and more applications need more advanced PC. The same for OS.
