American Spirit: You're sorry you're order for IBM didn't get filled at 113? You ought to thank your lucky stars you didn't toss your money into this trash basket. So they "beat" earnings after they had been revised down sharply; big deal. Meanwhile, their sales and revenues were down and Oracle and Sun Microsystems continue to eat their lunch. Of course, this doesn't matter since Chief Huckster Lou Gerstner will put his positive spin on everything. He is Wall Street's darling and the anal-ysts still aren't wise to his act.

Don't believe me? Pull up a one year chart for IBM. It has had more false starts than a swimming meet. This is a company with slow growth, still struggling to find its way. The ONLY area it is dominant in is computer mainframes, not exactly where you want to be positioned in the New Millennium. However, if you want to swallow Lou Gerstner's recurrent story-line about new e-commerce initiatives and throw good money at IBM, be my guest. I've heard this story before and I'll pass.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
