Actually Ian, I too would expect them to support both technologies at both the business desktop level and at the technical workstation level which everyone will agree are two separate markets. In this case this is not happening. We are seeing HP introduce 820 based systems in the business desktop market with Rambus but HP is stating that Rambus is not the way to go for their tecnical workstations. Integraph are doing the same thing. It is ironic that Rambus systems are being introduced into market segments where the benefits are not that easy to quantify and that their workstation division have chosen a memory architecture based on PC133 SDRAM.

My surprise is that both these companies are leaders in the technical workstation markets and both these companies are choosing not to hedge their bets via the 840 and Rambus.

I have been evaluating an 840 based workstation here with Rambus for a few weeks now and I am impressed with the performance. It is for this reason plus my belief in the technology in general that I view the decisions of both these companies with interest.

AND...It was HP's "White Paper" on Rambus that convinced me to buy Rambus in the first place. They have a nice little chart, even they believe Rambus is going to be the memory of choice.
